Lasanaa, an Alternative Art Space in Kathmandu, and Women Down the Pub, an art group from Denmark, invite you to participate in an art project to discuss gender and democracy through public art.
Today’s urban spaces are being used more and more for commercial purposes. These spaces must be reclaimed. Therefore we intend to create an alternative billboard’ space - a space that does not sell you anything, but instead invites you to reflect on matters of public importance.
For one year (2008 and early 2009) we have rented a central placed billboard, that will be used to feature your creative expressions. For this, we invite your participation.
Our intention is to showcase today’s most creative expressions about gender and democracy in an eye-catching public arena - on top of Radhakuti Archade (opposite Share Market) at Putali Sadak, Kathmandu. We are therefore seeking proposals for creative, multidisciplinary (art/text) expressions on the topic of ‘gender and democracy’ for this billboard.
The format for the designs should be: sketches/drawings of (15 X 24 inches/300 resolution) 15’X24’, along with the name(s) and contact address/number of the designer(s). All designs should be submitted to : Rajan Kaphle, Times Creation, 44/34 Lalupate Marg, Putali Sadak, Kathmandu. tel: 4410059 / 4441759 tcreation@wlink.com.np , lasanaa07@gmail.com by the deadline of Nov 10th, 2.00 pm.
Priority will be given to collaborative and group efforts with innovative, personal and expressive designs.
A total of 10 designs will be selected. Each selected design will be featured for 4 weeks on the billboard. Designs not selected for the billboards will be featured in a catalogue to be published at the end of the project, and on our website.
Artists will be given full acknowledgment through press releases and in the catalogue and website, but artists will not receive fees.
Copyright of the work will
remain with the creators, with onetime use granted to the project organizers
for use on the billboard, catalogue and website.’
This public art project is supported by the Danish Embassy and DCCD.
